What if none of that happens
(and goodness we sure hope it doesn’t) but your 2 (or 3, or 4, or more) kids start reaching college age and want to further their education? Where will that money come from if you don’t have it in savings? (And hoping that your son or daughter will be an amazing athlete and get a full scholarship doesn’t count because, well, it’s stupid.)
What if, when you hit 55 to 60 years old, you want to get out of the rat race but don’t have the money to support yourself for the next 25 to 30 years (or longer)? Chances are you’d need to keep working long past the time when you really should.
The main question to ask yourself,
and the reason to ask when you’re young, is simply this; are you financially prepared to live a long life? It’s an important question, to be sure, and one that we think you should be asking when you’re young, strong and as far from needing that money as possible.
